The target was set based on the distance recommended at LensAlign. There is a diagonal scale adjoining the target so I can see the amount and direction of focus errors. The target is a perpendicular to the camera with a sighting mechanism to make sure the camera is square to the target. My camera and lens were mounted on a tripod with a shutter delay. I used the LensAlign target mounted on a spare tripod. Checking in Nikon software, I could see that I had consistent errors even when the sensor was precisely on the eye, and I had enough images to confirm that impression. For example, with my D850, I noticed on shoot where 100% of the images were backfocused 4 inches from a distance of 20 feet. Most people just test when they see consistent errors in AF. There are a small number of people who test everything. Start with whether or not you have consistent focus errors. The camera uses a hybrid phase detect / contrast detect AF system, and errors of any magnitude or consistency are uncommon. You probably don't need to fine tune focus on your Z6. So in theory, it would ignore your adjustment to the lens, but I have never verified that is correct.Ĭan you help me in discovering how to fine tune my Z6? I just got it recently and do not understand fine tuning. But the Z system does support fine tuning, and it can be used both to correct focus or to bias focus. In theory, the hybrid Phase Detect - Contrast Detect of the Z system should focus accurately. If you use the lens on multiple camera bodies, the body needs to be adjusted as needed. My understanding is the lens only contains a single adjustment. With a range of focal lengths, aperture options, and advanced optical features, there is likely a Sigma Art lens that will meet the specific needs of any Sony E-mount photographer.I have not used the dock for any focus adjustment to my lenses.
